Arsenal and Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez has been voted the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year.

Over 200,000 votes have been cast since the ten man shortlist was announced earlier this month and Sanchez beat off competition from Chelsea forward Eden Hazard, who finished second, and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, who finished third, to win the award.

The 26-year-old joined Arsenal from Barcelona last summer and has enjoyed a fruitful first season in England football. Scoring 16 times in 35 Premier League appearances, Sanchez helped Arsenal to finish third in the league table.

He has also played an instrumental role in Arsenal’s FA Cup run this season and scored the two goals against Reading in the semi-final which helped the Gunners to get into their second consecutive cup final.

Sanchez is expected to play a key role for Arsenal in the final against Aston Villa on Saturday and could finish his first season in English football with a piece of silverware to his credit.
