Celtic assistant manager John Collins has said that the club's players made significant improvements as the season progressed, adding that the second half of the season was "pleasing."

The Hoops have finished the season with a domestic double in manager Ronny Deila’s first campaign at the club. The Scottish giants won their fourth successive league title and also collected the League Cup after their defeat of Dundee United in the final at Hampden Park in March.

Deila’s men endured a slow start to the season as they lost 6-1 on aggregate to Legia Warsaw in the third round of the Champions League qualifying stage. However, they were reinstated as the Polish outfit were disqualified for fielding an ineligible player.

Celtic couldn’t get past Slovenian side Maribor in the playoff round and exited the tournament without making the group stage. Collins has conceded that it took some time for the players to get used to their manager, but they gradually improved as the season wore on.

“I think we are satisfied but the key word is progress”, the 47-year-old told Celtic View.

“We started slowly which was understandable considering we were getting to know the players and the players were getting to know us.

“But as the months have gone by, we have seen progress in every department.

“Defensively and attacking-wise, we are creating more chances and scoring more goals, so the second half of the season has been very pleasing indeed.”
