Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas has expressed his gratitude to departing manager Carlo Ancelotti for his time at the club, saying that the Italian is an honourable man.

Ancelotti won Real Madrid their much-coveted tenth European Cup in his first season in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu and he also won the Copa del Rey to end his inaugural campaign in Spanish football with two trophies.

However, Los Blancos failed to win any major silverware this season after crashing out at the semi-final stage of the Champions League, at the round 16 stage in the Copa del Rey and finishing second behind fierce rivals Barcelona in the league.

His failure to win any trophies cost the Italian his job at the helm of Real Madrid and Casillas has expressed his gratitude to the three-time Champions League winning manager for the work he did at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“This is a demanding club and the president and the board made the best decision but I thank Carlo for everything he did for me, even when I was angry in his first season when I wasn’t playing often”, the goalkeeper was quoted as saying by AS.
