Liverpool defender Kolo Toure feels that he can be a good mentor for the Reds’ youngsters like Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson.

Toure has penned a new deal with the Merseyside outfit that will see him at the club until next summer and the vastly experienced defender, who has won two league titles – with Arsenal in 2004 and with Manchester City in 2011 – feels that he has a lot to contribute to Liverpool’s cause.

The 34-year-old has been plying his trade in the Premier League since 2002 and has won three FA Cups apart from his two league titles.

"I am one of the most experienced players in the squad and I have to play that role because we have so many young players”, he was quoted as saying by his club’s site.

“For me, it's important that I try to help those young players when they need it. I am happy to do that, I like to take on that responsibility, and I enjoy that role.

"The manager has known me for a long time and we've been speaking very well together. He knows what I can do on and off the pitch.”

Following the departure of Steven Gerrard this summer for his stint with MLS outfit LA Galaxy, Toure will be one of the senior members in the side and he is eager to mentor some of the youngsters and help them perform at their best.

"I have won some things in my career, but now I want to help the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Jordan Henderson and the other young players win something because they are great, great players.

"If I can help them in any way with my experience to achieve things next season, that would be massive for me.”
