Nicolas Gaitan's transfer to Manchester United is 80 to 90 per cent complete, according to Portuguese sports daily A Bola.

Manchester United have long been on the tail of the Argentine, though he has continued to stay loyal to Benfica and has not pushed for a transfer away from Lisbon.

However, it increasingly appears this will be the summer which sees Gaitan make the move to Old Trafford to bolster Louis van Gaal's midfield options.

The Red Devils are thought to be set to pay around the €30m mark to sign Gaitan, with 80 to 90 per cent of the deal having been agreed.

Crucially however, the transfer will not be confirmed until after the final of the Portuguese League Cup, which sees Benfica take on Maritimo on Friday.

Gaitan has just helped Benfica secure the Portuguese Primeira Liga title and will head out of Lisbon on a high.

He joined Benfica from Argentine giants Boca Juniors in 2010 and quickly established himself as a key member of the side.

Now at the age of 27 he is likely to be setting sail for England.
