Rafael Benitez is expected to announce his exit from Napoli in a press conference on Thursday afternoon, according to Marca.

The former Liverpool boss is the front runner to succeed Carlo Ancelotti, who was sacked on Monday, at Real Madrid and it has been speculated that the deal is all but done.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis was hoping to keep Benitez at the San Paolo but with his contract expiring this summer, the Spaniard is expected to end his two-season stint with the club.

Napoli have called for a press conference tomorrow afternoon and it has been claimed that Benitez will announce his departure from the club in that gathering.

Benitez has won the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana with the club and is a widely popular figure amongst the players and the fans.

However, the Spaniard is believed to be on his way to becoming new Real Madrid manager. Benitez started his coaching career with Los Blancos and the club are expected to announce his appointment soon.

Real Madrid sacked Ancelotti just a year after he won the club’s tenth European Cup. His failure to win any of the major trophies on offer this season is believed to be the reason for his departure from the Bernabeu.
