Paraguayan Under-20 striker Sergio Diaz’s father has revealed that his son has chosen to play for Roma.

Manchester United and Liverpool were interested in the young forward but Chelsea recently took concrete steps to attract Diaz to west London.

The Blues even invited his father to visit Stamford Bridge to take stock of their facilities but Roma seem to have beaten Chelsea to the youngster’s signature.

Ismail Diaz, the 17-year-old’s father, has revealed that though Chelsea were interested, his son chose Roma because their offer was more ‘concrete’.

“My son wants to play at Roma”, Ismail was quoted as saying by La Roma 24.

“Their offer is more concrete than that of Chelsea.”

However, Diaz will remain with his current club Cerro Porteno until next summer as he doesn’t turn 18 until March and will only join Roma at the end of next season.

Rome are believed to have struck a deal worth €6m plus add-ons with Cerro Porteno for the teenage striker.

Diaz is a highly-rated young forward in Paraguay and caught the imagination of some top clubs with his performance in the South America Under-20 Championship earlier this year.
