Ajax have taken a big step forward in their efforts to sign Willem II left-back Mitchell Dijks.

The Dutch defender is being chased by Ajax and Feyenoord, but Willem II recently revealed they have just one official offer on the table, from a club outside the Netherlands, that side believed to be Celtic.

However, Ajax have taken a step towards capturing Dijks by agreeing a contract which would run until 2018 with the left-back, according to Dutch daily De Telegraaf.

Now the Amsterdam side must agree a fee with Willem II in order to capture the defender.

Ajax sold Dijks to Willem II just last summer, but now want him back at the Amsterdam ArenA following a period of rapid development on the 22-year-old's part.

Frank de Boer's men believe they should quickly be able to agree a fee for Dijks due to the fact they included a 50 per cent sell-on clause in their agreement to sell the player to Willem II last year.

Willem II are thought to be looking for €1.3m for Dijks, leading Ajax to believe they could pay just €650,000.
