Liverpool-linked Carlo Ancelotti’s wife has stated her view that the Italian tactician needs to take a break from football to recharge his batteries.

The former Chelsea boss was sacked at Real Madrid on Monday and since then he has been linked with the managerial positions of some of the top clubs in Europe.

AC Milan are working hard to convince the Italian to return to the San Siro this summer and there is speculation that Liverpool are also eyeing Ancelotti as a replacement for current manager Brendan Rodgers.

West Ham are also believed to be in the mix for the 55-year-old but his wife indicated that Ancelotti might take a sabbatical from football management.

Mariann Ancelotti revealed that the former AC Milan boss would have liked to continue at Real Madrid but said that now her husband needs a break before returning to football again.

“If Real had wanted he would have continued [there]”, Mariann told Vanity Fair.

“It didn’t happen and now Carlo needs to recharge his batteries before returning again to coach another club.”

AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani is expected to meet Ancelotti again this afternoon to convince him to return to the Rossoneri in the summer.
