Manchester United winger Ashley Young has said that he has enjoyed working under boss Louis van Gaal, whom he dubs a “brilliant manager.”

Van Gaal took charge of the Red Devils at the start of the current season and in his first season at Old Trafford, he has guided the Premier League giants to the qualifying stages of the Champions League after they missed out on the competition last season.

Young has enjoyed a change in fortunes under the Dutchman’s reign and this season he has gone on to make 29 appearances in all competitions after a tumultuous campaign under David Moyes the previous season.

The England international is all praise for Van Gaal, saying that working with the well-travelled manager has been a great experience.

“Working with Louis van Gaal has been a great experience", he wrote on the club website.

“From pre-season the manager came in and talked about his philosophy and what he wanted to get out of it, the little details in training and just bringing the club on in the way he saw it and how he wanted things to go, it’s been fantastic.

“And for me to have the opportunity to play under him and work under him day in, day out has been brilliant.

“He’s a fantastic manager and his track record and what he’s won in the game really speaks for itself.”

Manchester United finished their league campaign with 70 points and in fourth place. They will look to challenge for the league title next season.
