Valencia are making contingency plans in the event that they lose Manchester United target Nicolas Otamendi.

The Argentine centre-back is the subject of serious attention from the Red Devils and his agent has suggested he is keen to move on from the Mestalla.

Valencia however are putting up a brick wall around the Argentina international and insisting that he will not be permitted to move on for anything less than his €50m buy-out clause.

But behind the scenes Los Che are making plans for the possible departure of Otamendi.

Indeed, according to Catalan daily Sport, Espanyol's Hector Moreno is their preferred successor to Otamendi.

Moreno is still feeling his way back from a cruciate knee ligament injury and snapping him up would represent something of a gamble for Valencia.

However, Los Che are attracted to the fact that the Mexico international has only 12 months left on his contract with Espanyol and it is believed a bid of just €7m would be enough to take him to the Mestalla.

Valencia are even confident the price could be lowered further if they loan Espanyol defender Victor Ruiz, who is on loan at Villarreal.
