1.FC Koln general manager Jorg Schmadtke has heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur's latest signing Kevin Wimmer, saying that the defender developed into an Austria international during his time in Germany.

Wimmer joined the German outfit in 2012 and helped them earn promotion to the Bundesliga last season. This term they finished 12th in the league standings and managed to avoid the drop by a comfortable margin.

Through the course of his time with the Billy Goats, the defender made 73 appearances and scored as well as assisted the two goals each. He has also become a full Austria international and has earned two caps with his national team.

Tottenham will hope that his purchase strengthens their defence that leaked 53 Premier League goals last season.

Schmadtke has thanked Wimmer for his services to the club and feels that the time was right for the youngster to make a move to the Premier League side.

“Of course it is with some regret that he will be leaving us, but we understand that he is getting the opportunity to play for one of the biggest traditional clubs in London.
