Inter Milan have initiated contact with Bayern Munich to enquire about Moroccan defender Medhi Benatia.

The 28-year-old defender was part of protracted transfer saga last summer involving clubs across Europe before he sealed a €28m move to Bayern Munich from Roma.

However, his big move to Germany hasn’t turned out to be the way he wanted it to and a constant struggle with form and fitness hasn’t allowed him to nail down a starting spot in Pep Guardiola’s team.

With only 15 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, the defender has struggled to justify his top billing at the Allianz Arena and it has been claimed that the Bavarians have kept all options open regarding his future at the club.

Inter have pounced on the uncertainty surrounding the 28-year-old’s future and according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri have enquired about the player’s availability in the summer.

The club have received a positive response from Bayern Munich’s end and the German champions are believed to have indicated that a bid of around €22m will be enough to convince them to sell Benatia.

The Italian giants are considering the options in front of their table before they decide to make a concrete move for the Moroccan international this summer.
