Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has termed Louis van Gaal ‘cold and ‘distant’ but admits that he has learned a lot under the Dutchman this season.

Van Gaal scooped up the Argentine from Sporting Lisbon last summer following the World Cup and though injuries have affected his performances, the defender has earned praise in his first season in English football.

When questioned about his experience of working under Van Gaal, Rojo revealed that the Dutchman can sometimes be cold and distant but he stressed that he has learned a lot from playing under the experienced former Barcelona boss.

“Van Gaal is distant; he is very cold”, Rojo told Pase a la Liga.

“But has a lot of experience and is a great coach, I have learned a lot from him.”

Rojo also conceded that like most good coaches Van Gaal is also a very demanding boss but added that the Dutchman’s honesty towards his players is an attribute he admires.

“Sometimes he is very demanding but as you know most coaches are like that.

“The good thing about him is that he is always looking forward and is very honest.”

Rojo is expected to play a key role for Argentina in this summer’s Copa America in Chile, which starts on 11th June.

Van Gaal has already said that the Copa America might disrupt his pre-season preparations because some of his players like Rojo might join the team late.
