Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has said that it has been exciting experience working with manager Louis van Gaal, adding that now having worked with the Dutchman he understands what makes him so successful.

Van Gaal took charge of the Red Devils last summer and in his inaugural season at Old Trafford he has guided Manchester United to a fourth place league finish and thereby a place in the playoff round of the Champions League.

Following the departure of long-serving manager Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of the 2012/13 season, the 20-time English champions struggled under David Moyes which ultimately led to his premature departure after only ten months at the helm.

Van Gaal was roped in for the Old Trafford hot seat last summer and the much-travelled Dutchman, who has won league titles across the Netherlands, Germany and Spain as well as a Champions League with Ajax Amsterdam, has guided the three-time European champions into the top tier European competition in only his first season at the club.

Rooney is all-praise for the 65-year-old and has lavished praise on his management style.
