Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced the signing of defender Kevin Wimmer from Bundesliga outfit 1.FC Koln, with the 22-year-old penning a five-year contract with the Premier League side.

Wimmer's proposed move to White Hart Lane was an open secret and now, following the conclusion of the Bundesliga season, Spurs have confirmed that the Austrian has indeed joined.




The 22-year-old is an Austrian international and will be aiming to challenge for a spot in Spurs' defence, which leaked 53 goals in the Premier League this season.

Spurs announced: "We are delighted to announce that we have completed the signing of Kevin Wimmer from 1.FC Koln."
 

 

Wimmer started his career at Austrian club LASK Linz, but was quickly snapped up by 1.FC Koln in 2012, initially playing for the club's second side.

The defender made 34 appearances in all competitions for Koln in the current campaign, picking up four yellow cards and a single red card along the way.

His final appearance for the Bundesliga side came against Wolfsburg earlier this month, a game that ended in a 2-2 draw.
