Leeds United are still in the hunt for defender Sol Bamba, despite suggestions the player has rejected a return to Elland Road, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Bamba linked up with Leeds from Palermo on loan in the winter transfer window and at once had an impact in the side's defence.

He established himself as a popular figure with the Whites and at the end of the campaign stressed his desire to join the club permanently, while also criticising the off the pitch situation at Elland Road.

It has been suggested that Bamba has knocked back a switch to Leeds, but the Championship club insist the signing of the 30-year-old is still an option.

Bamba joined Palermo from Trabzonspor, but has struggled to command a first team spot with the Italian side.

He still has a further two years remaining on his contract at Palermo, but is keen to play on a regular basis.

The centre-back managed 19 appearances for Leeds last term as he became one of the first names on former head coach Neil Redfearn's teamsheet.
