Theo Walcott has hailed Arsenal's 4-0 destruction of Aston Villa in the FA Cup final today and believes the trophy is set to be followed by many more pieces of silverware.

Arsenal started strongly and quickly began to enjoy the better chances, looking threatening and pushing Aston Villa back.

And the Gunners made their advantage count with Walcott firing them ahead in the 40th minute, hitting a superb strike.

The second half followed much the same pattern as Arsenal dominated and Alexis Sanchez unleashed a shot from outside the penalty area which swerved in the air and gave Shay Given no chance, making it 2-0 to the Gunners in the 50th minute.

Aston Villa rallied and enjoyed possession as well as moments of danger. But any comeback was soon snuffed out when Per Mertesacker lost marker Christian Benteke and directed a header into the back of the net in the 62nd minute.

Then another hammer blow for Aston Villa came in injury time, with substitute Olivier Giroud turning in an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain cross.

Arsenal had won the final 4-0, picking up the FA Cup and Walcott believes that the trophy should have a lot of company very soon.

Walcott told the BBC: "It's amazing. Any win is fantastic and the manner we did it today was great.

"We played great football, kept a clean sheet – we always knew if we kept a clean sheet we would score goals and win the game.

"I thank the manager for having the faith and picking me and I repaid him for that, but this team is blessed and it's got to be many more next year.

"To be part of this today is a dream", Walcott added.
