Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has expressed his pride at Manchester City Under-9s' performance in a youth tournament this weekend.

Van Persie's son plays for the Citizens' Under-9s and the Dutch striker helped to host the competition which sports his name this weekend, the Robin van Persie International Tournament.




The tournament, held in the Netherlands, boasted teams from Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Club Brugge, Genk, Manchester City, PSV Eindhoven, Anderlecht, Excelsior, Slavia Prague, South Africa All Stars, Tottenham Hotspur, Vitesse, Sporting Lisbon and Feyenoord.

The tournament was started to raise money for a children's hospital in Rotterdam and some of the sponsorship money goes to the charity.
 

 

The competition was won by Feyenoord's youth team, but Van Persie was proud of the effort put in by his son's side.

He posted a photo of the team and wrote on Twitter: "Very proud of you lads. Man City u9 well done!"

Darren Fletcher's son also turn out for Manchester City's Under-9s and the former Manchester United midfielder was on hand to watch the tournament from the sidelines.
