Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has revealed that things haven’t been as gloomy as they have been reported to be since he has been replaced by David Ospina as the Gunners’ number one in league matches.

Szczesny started the season as the first choice custodian for the north London outfit, but after a series of questionable performances he was relegated to the bench in favour of Ospina, who grabbed his chance with both hands and became the favoured goalkeeper for manager Arsene Wenger.

The Poland international was thus reduced to FA Cup appearances and kept a clean sheet in the 4-0 thrashing of Aston Villa in the final of the domestic cup as Arsenal won the trophy for a second consecutive season.

Szczesny has revealed that he has the full support of his team-mates and they have made it easy to deal with his current situation.

“Speaking honestly, it hasn't been quite as awful a time for me as it might have seemed from the outside”, he told his club’s site.

“I’ve got a really good relationship with the boys in the squad as well as with the boss.

“I fully accept the boss' decisions, whatever they may be. Of course, it's understandable that your pride feels hurt and your ambition dented. That's only natural and to be expected.”

And he is delighted to have delivered the goods when he was needed in the FA Cup final.

“But I got my chance and I'm really grateful to the boss for that.

“I believe that I took my chance well, or as well as I could, since I kept a clean sheet, even if the way the game went I didn't honestly have too many situations to avoid letting the team down.”
