Brendan Rodgers will remain as Liverpool manager after holding a meeting with chairman Tom Werner earlier today.

The Liverpool boss was called to account for a season which saw the Reds slip from second spot to sixth and fail to win a major trophy, despite over £100m being spent on new players last summer.

It had been thought Rodgers' position would be in danger, especially in the light of a last day humiliating 6-1 loss at Stoke City, but according to the BBC, he has been told his job is safe.

However, Rodgers agreed with the club's powerbrokers that improvements must be made next season.

Rodgers has now recorded finishes of seventh, second and sixth in his three years as Liverpool manager, with goals conceded totals in the Premier League of 43, 50 and 48.

The Northern Irishman is being backed to continue in his post though and will push ahead with plans to bring Danny Ings, Christian Benteke, Nathaniel Clyne and James Milner to Anfield.

It has even been claimed Rodgers has offered to make Milner club captain to tempt him to Liverpool.
