Carl Medjani has blasted quotes attributed to him in which he claimed former club Liverpool are on his tail.

The Algerian defender joined Liverpool from the youth ranks of Saint-Etienne in 2003, but struggled to make his mark at Anfield and was loaned out to Lorient and Metz, before them completing a permanent move to Lorient.

His career headed upwards with a move to Monaco in 2013, before he then enjoyed loan stints at Valenciennes and Olympiacos. He signed for Turkish giants Trabzonspor in 2014.

Medjani had been quoted by a local Turkish website as saying Liverpool are keen to re-sign him, but he has strongly denied the words attributed to him.

"I am not happy at all with the operation", he told France Football.

"I've never spoken to this site [which quoted me] and there has been absolutely no contact with Liverpool."

Medjani has shone with Trabzonspor this season and as a result has been linked with a move to some of Turkey's biggest clubs.

Both Besiktas and Galatasaray are on his tail and keen to take him to Istanbul.

The defender's contract with Trabzonspor runs until the summer of 2018.
