Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Benjamin Stambouli has poured cold water on talk that he could head back to France to sign for Marseille.

Stambouli swapped Montpellier for Spurs last summer, but has struggled to find regular playing time at White Hart Lane, ending the season with 25 appearances in all competitions to his name.

The 24-year-old managed only one full 90 minute appearances in the Premier League, against Sunderland, as Mauricio Pochettino preferred other options.

But he will not wave the white flag and book a return to Ligue 1 with Marseille as he looks for more minutes on the pitch in England.

"I'm aware of what's been said and I don't think I'll return to France", Stambouli told French radio station RMC.

"I'm thinking about getting a little more playing time in England.

"I do not want to return to France."

Stambouli is under contract with Spurs until the summer of 2019, but will surely want regular first team football next season if he is to have any hope of forcing his way into the France squad in time for Euro 2016, which will be hosted in his homeland.
