Inter Milan have submitted a bid for Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas to bring him to San Siro this summer, according to Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

Real Madrid are keen to acquire Manchester United custodian David de Gea, whose existing contract expires next summer and so far he has refused to pen a new deal, leading to speculation regarding a possible move to the Spanish capital.

Casillas has endured a difficult season with Real Madrid, with the club faithful often resorting to whistling the veteran goalkeeper whenever he has faltered in goal.

De Gea’s arrival would in all likelihood relegate the Spanish national team captain to the bench – and that has put a number of sides on red alert.

The Italian giants have submitted a bid for the 34-year-old as they attempt an upgrade on incumbent goalkeeper Samir Handanovic and attempt to qualify for European football next season.

However, Roma are also in the race for Casillas and with the Giallorossi playing in the Champions League next season, they may just pip Inter to the goalkeeper’s signature.

Casillas has no dearth of suitors as Turkish giants Besiktas and Fenerbahce have also registered their interest in acquiring his services.

Real Madrid are awaiting the confirmation of a new manager following the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti and the decision with regards to Casillas’ future may be taken once the new manager takes his post.
