Anderlecht general manager Herman van Holsbeeck has stressed that he won’t sell Newcastle United linked Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer.

Newcastle apparently had agreed a fee with Anderlecht last month for the 20-year-old Serbian striker before the player himself declined to join the club.

Mitrovic was in sublime form for Anderlecht this season, scoring 27 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions and his exploits didn’t slip under the radar of some top clubs across Europe.

A number of sides including Arsenal have been keenly following the Serbian’s progress in Belgium and were said to be ready to make a move for him this summer.

However, Anderlecht have decided against selling the player at the end of the season. Though they said to have agreed a fee with Newcastle, the club general manager is now in no mood to part with Mitrovic.

Speaking to Sport Foot/Magazine, Van Holsbeeck said: “At 20, Mitrovic has scored 20 league goals this season.

“He scored against Arsenal, Dortmund and has also played for Serbia. This is a striker who you know can really improve a side.

“Therefore, we have decided against selling him. Mitro is aware and he wants to stay.”

The 20-year-old has already earned six caps for Serbia and has one international goal to his credit.
