Holmbert Fridjonsson does not want to return to Celtic and is hoping to stay in Denmark, despite Brondby not opting to keep him on a permanent basis.

The young Iceland hitman was snapped up from Celtic by Brondby on a season-long loan deal last summer. The Danish giants had the option of keeping him permanently at the end of the loan – but they have passed on a deal.

Nevertheless, Fridjonsson is not thinking in terms of heading back to Celtic and wants to remain in Denmark, where he has enjoyed his football.

The 22-year-old made 14 appearances in all competitions for Brondby and is looking to play significantly more football next season, he hopes in Denmark.

"My future is uncertain. I don't know what's going to happen, but I love Denmark and I would love to stay here longer", the Icelandic striker told 3point.

"I just need to find the right club where I can play all the minutes and grow as a player."

And Fridjonsson thinks that despite limited game time at Brondby, he has improved over the course of his loan spell with the club.

"I have learned a lot from my year at Brondby.

"I want to thank the club for giving me the experience and for letting me play in front of so many fans and kick-starting my career. I have enjoyed every second.

"My stay at Brondby has, by every measure except the playing time, lived up to my expectations."

Fridjonsson scored a single goal for Brondby throughout the course of his loan, striking in the Danish Superliga against Esbjerg.
