Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Villarreal forward Luciano Vietto this summer, according to Madrid-based daily AS.

Vietto signed for Villarreal from Argentine side Racing Club last summer and he didn’t take much time to impress in his inaugural campaign in European football.




The highly-rated youngster netted 20 goals and set up his team-mates with a further eight in a ll competitions to help Marcelino Garcia Toral’s side finish sixth and thereby qualify for the Europa League next season.

The striker’s performances earned him admirers from across Europe with his compatriot Diego Simeone keen to bring him to the Vicente Calderon this summer in a bid to reinforce his forward line and reclaim the league title they won in 2014.
 


Atletico Madrid finished their league campaign in third behind Barcelona and Real Madrid and exited the Champions League as well as the Copa del Rey at the quarter-final stage.

However, Simeone is keen to add further depth to his striking options and sees his countryman as the ideal striker for his side.

Vietto has also earned admirers in the Premier League, with Manchester United having sent scouts to watch the striker as recently as March.
