Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton are jostling for the signature of Feyenoord’s 20-year-old defender Sven van Beek.

Schooled at Feyenoord’s youth academy, the Dutch defender has made quick progress through the ranks to establish himself as one of the starters in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team.

His assured performances in the heart of the Feyenoord defence have won the admiration of many observers and have also attracted the attention of prying eyes from abroad.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Premier League duo of Tottenham and Southampton are closely monitoring the progress of Van Beek and are ready to pounce on him this summer.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is believed to have the advantage in Van Beek’s chase as he was the one who handed the young defender his debut for Feyenoord in 2013 when he was the club’s manager.

However, Feyenoord are known to be tough negotiators and with three years left on his deal the club are not expecting to sell the player for a paltry transfer fee this summer.

Van Beek was a regular feature in the Feyenoord team this season and has racked up 44 senior appearances for the club.
