Former AC Milan midfielder Adel Taarabt is set to undergo a medical today at Benfica and is expected to sign a five-year deal, according to Portuguese daily Record.

Taarabt is owned by English side Queens Park Rangers and his existing contract runs out next summer.

But the Hoops’ relegation from the Premier League this season allows the Moroccan to leave the club this summer.

Benfica will only need to pay a signing bonus and Taarabt’s wages if the deal goes through.

Taarabt joined AC Milan in January last year on loan and returned in the summer.

This season his time has been interrupted by injuries, while ex-boss Harry Redknapp was reluctant to pick him for large parts of the campaign which saw the midfielder reduced to a mere eight appearances in all competitions.

He is eager for a move to the Portuguese giants in search of regular football.

Through the course of his career in English football, Taarabt has appeared for Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur, along with QPR.
