AaB are still speaking to Aston Villa striker Nicklas Helenius in the hopes of doing a deal to keep him at the club next season.

Helenius is on loan at AaB from Aston Villa, with his deal running until 1st July, after which time he is scheduled to return to the English side.

There has been talk of the striker terminating his contract at Villa Park in order to move on.

And with AaB including Helenius in their pre-season preparations, they have struck a confident note on him remaining with the club into next term.

"His contract expires on 1st July, after which he will go back to Aston Villa", AaB sporting director Allan Gaarde told the Nordjyske Stiftstidende.

"Until that time, he's training with us.

"We are still talking with him about a deal and we're also taking him to Norway [with us for pre-season]."

Helenius was snapped up by Aston Villa from AaB in the summer of 2013, with the English side splashing around £1.2m to take him to Villa Park.

However, he struggled to make his mark with the Premier League outfit and was shipped back to AaB on loan last summer.

A Denmark international, the tall striker has two senior caps to his name.
