Rangers have confirmed the signing of ex-Liverpool defender Danny Wilson.

Wilson becomes new manager Mark Warburton’s first signing for the Gers. The 23-year-old joins the Ibrox club from Scottish Premiership club Hearts, after activating a clause to allow him to leave the Edinburgh side.

Wilson, who joined Liverpool in 2010, failed to cement a first team place at Anfield and was loaned out to Blackpool and Bristol City before permanently joining Hearts in the summer of 2013 after an initial loan spell at Tynecastle.

The Scotland international made only nine appearances for the Reds. During his time at Anfield, the defender picked up the League Cup in 2012.

Warburton’s bid for a promotion campaign for Rangers has gained early impetus as he looks to lead his new club to the Scottish Premier League after playing in the lower divisions.

The former Hearts captain played 34 times for the Tynecastle club last season, scoring five goals in the process.
