Willem II have announced the departure of left-back Mitchell Dijks to Dutch giants Ajax.

Dijks only joined Willem II last summer from Ajax after failing to break into the first team under coach Frank de Boer.

The defender rapidly improved with Willem II, leading to a number of clubs chasing him this summer, a group which included AZ Alkmaar, Celtic, Feyenoord and Hertha Berlin.

But it is Ajax who have won the race for Dijks and Willem II have confirmed that they have an agreement for the player to head to the Amsterdam ArenA.

As part of the deal Ajax have agreed to loan Willem II no less than three youngsters for next season.

Richairo Zivkovic, Ruben Ligeon and Lesley de Sa are all making their way to link up with Jurgen Streppel's side, further bolstering Willem II.

Dijks will now aim to make the impact with Ajax which eluded him during his first spell with De Boer's men.

Ajax surrendered their Dutch Eredivisie title last season, PSV Eindhoven taking the crown.
