Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has no plans to return to his former club Marseille.

The veteran striker is on the lookout for a new club this summer after ending his second stint with Chelsea at the end of last season.

While he was not the central figure in Chelsea’s league title winning team, the Ivorian played his part and even scored four Premier League goals in what is believed to have been his last season in the English top flight.

The 37-year-old is still in demand and has been linked with a number of clubs. There is also talk that he might be open to the idea of joining his former club Marseille.

However, the Ivorian rubbished the speculation and said that Marseille’s future plans are not in sync with what he wants at his next club.

Speaking to Ivorian TV channel RTI, Drogba said: “This is not a financial issue.

“I like to have a project and I know very well that Marseille have no plans. They allowed their best players to run down their contracts and leave.

“I am talking about Andre Ayew, Andre-Pierre Gignac and they will lose more.”

The 37-year-old also stressed that he just doesn’t want to join Marseille to play football as he still wants to be a part of a winning team as he looks to see out the final phase of his career in style.

“I do not want to go to Marseille to just play.

“I will go somewhere to win and I still want to win.”
