Hoffenheim's sporting director has warned the club's fans not to expect a spending spree following the sale of Roberto Firmino to Liverpool.

The Bundesliga outfit are bringing in around €41m for the Brazil international midfielder and hopes have been raised that they can put the money to instant effect as they look to climb up to the upper reaches of the German top flight next season.

But sporting director Alexander Rosen says that the club's policy is not to instantly spend what is received and he stressed that Hoffenheim will work responsibly, keeping their feet on the ground.

Rosen told German daily WAZ: "We have always stressed that we will not reinvest the returns from the transfer immediately and to their full extent – whatever the returns may look like.

"We work prudently and in a down-to-earth manner on a future as an established member in the Bundesliga", he added.

The sale of Firmino is a record transfer fee for the Bundesliga, beating the €40m Bayern Munich paid to Athletic Bilbao to sign Javi Martinez.

Wolfsburg banked €37m from selling Edin Dzeko to Manchester City in 2011, while a similar sum was paid by Bayern Munich for Mario Gotze from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2013.

Firmino has agreed a five-year contract with Liverpool.
