Sao Paulo are trying to arrange a friendly against Liverpool to give a send-off to legendary goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni, but admit bringing the English giants to Brazil could prove tricky.

Ceni has made over 1,200 appearances for Sao Paulo and the club are determined to sign off on his era in style. The 42-year-old is under contract until 31st December, after which time he will retire.

Liverpool, the side who provided Sao Paulo and Ceni with their opposition in the 2005 FIFA Club World Cup, won by the Brazilian giants, remain the club's dream opponents.

But with a friendly provisionally eyed for December, bringing Liverpool to Brazil will be tough.

Douglas Schwartzmann, Sao Paulo's marketing vice-president, told Globo Esporte: "That [Liverpool] is the idea. But it's not easy to gather players from abroad at a time when it's not pre-season. It costs a lot.

"We have the will. Bringing together the two teams from 2005 would be a dream and if we did it, it would be in December."

Given the difficulty however, Sao Paulo are looking at other opponents.

"We do not rule out the idea of bringing over Liverpool, but other clubs are also considered.

"Tenerife [Ceni’s first opponents], AC Milan…There is the possibility of playing with his friends, with other legends.

"Let's see what the cost effective options are, what's cheerful and feasible."

Schwartzmann will hold a meeting with Ceni in the coming days to discuss the options on the table as Sao Paulo bid to honour a club legend in style.

The veteran goalkeeper won the man of the match award in the 2005 FIFA Club World Cup final.
