Cagliari are rapidly closing in on the signing of Uruguayan striker Felipe Avenatti from Ternana, something which would represent a coup for the Sardinian outfit.

The tall striker has attracted interest from both Aston Villa and Leeds United in England and Ternana were dreaming of earning €4m from his sale, which would double their budget for the upcoming campaign.

But according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, it is Cagliari who are just a step away from signing Avenatti from Ternana.

The Sardinian side have a three-year contract ready for the striker to sign.

Cagliari were relegated from Serie A last term and are hoping Avenatti can power an instant return to the Italian top flight.
