Outgoing Leeds United midfielder Rodolph Austin has hailed the passionate support of the fans during his time at the club.

Austin, who was released by the Elland Road club last month after the expiry of his contract, has expressed his gratitude to the Leeds fans and reflected upon his time at the club.

"I was there for three years and I enjoyed it very much”, said the 30-year-old to the Jamaican Observer.

"I loved playing for the fans and loved playing for the club, it was fantastic.”

Austin’s European adventure began in Norway with Brann, where he spent four seasons before moving to England in the summer of 2012 and signing for Leeds.

The Jamaican has compared the atmosphere at the stadiums in Norway and England, and feels the English fans are more passionate than their Norwegian counterparts, which was fierce in derbies.

"In Norway the fans were very passionate and in Leeds they were even more passionate.

"Every away game you go the stands are full – that's the passion the club displays.

"The people take the football very seriously, they love the club and the atmosphere at Elland Road is always pumping.

"I remember playing Huddersfield Town, which is like a local derby, we were beating them 5-1 and you feel the stadium literally shaking with you on the pitch, so that's the kind of atmosphere.”

Austin played 31 times for the Whites last season, scoring three goals.

He led Jamaica into their first ever Copa America this summer, but failed to take his country past the group stages after they lost all their matches.
