Former Liverpool defender Fabio Aurelio is confident of compatriot Roberto Firmino’s progress at the Anfield club.

Brazil international Firmino, who agreed to join Liverpool last week subject to a medical, made his debut for the national team in October 2014 and has seen a rapid rise over the past 12 months.

And after sealing his switch to Liverpool last week, Firmino is expected to maintain his progress at his new club by ex-Red Aurelio, who was himself the first ever Brazilian to sign for the Anfield outfit.

"In a few months his life has changed a lot because of the appearances with the national team and now a big club has signed him", said the 35-year-old to LFC TV.

"It's a moment for him to grow a lot in his career, it's a great opportunity he has now.”

Aurelio has expressed confidence about Firmino and feels his recent experiences with the national team will stand him in good stead.

"He is very young. He has shown that he has grown a lot in a very short period of time. He has a lot of experience now with the national team as well in international competitions.”

The former defender believes Firmino’s Liverpool experience will help him grow, both as a player and as a person.

"Obviously he's joining Liverpool in a very different competition to what he is used to, so it will only increase his potential and football experience.

"It will make him grow not only as a person but as a player."

Firmino became the fifth player to agree a move to the Anfield outfit in the close season, following James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez.

He spent four-and-a-half seasons at Hoffenheim scoring 47 goals in 151 appearances, before moving on this summer.
