Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is unwilling to listen to offers below €40m for Real Madrid target David de Gea.

De Gea’s contract expires in a year’s time and the Spaniard is Real Madrid’s number one goalkeeping target.

It has been claimed that the 24-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Spanish giants and is only looking for the clubs to agree a fee.

However, the fee has become the main bone of contention between the clubs. Despite the goalkeeper’s contract situation, Manchester United manager Van Gaal is asking for a substantial price for the Spaniard.

According to Marca, the Dutchman is asking for a fee of around €40m for the custodian, a figure Real Madrid feel is too much for a player who will be available for free next summer.

However, the former Barcelona boss is refusing to flinch and is determined to get the best price for the 24-year-old who has been the club’s Player of the Year, two seasons in a row.

Van Gaal is also unwilling to let the Spaniard leave the club before he signs a replacement for him this summer.

De Gea is desperate to get the move sorted out by the end of the week as the Manchester United squad are supposed to report for pre-season training on Monday next week and the Spaniard is keen to avoid that situation.

Real Madrid are also keen to conclude the deal soon as their squad are set to fly out of the Spanish capital for their pre-season tour on 12th July and the club want to showcase their marquee signing during their tour of Australia and China.

Manchester United are in no hurry at the moment and Real Madrid are aware that the English giants might go on the counter-attack for Sergio Ramos if they decide to put too much pressure on them for De Gea.
