Manchester City are hoping to complete a deal to sign Manchester United linked Fabinho this week, according to French sports daily L'Equipe.

The 21-year-old Brazilian full-back has been impressive for Monaco this season, both in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, which brought him to the attention of some top clubs across Europe.

Manchester United, who are said to be in the market for a right-back, have been linked with a move for Fabinho, while Juventus, Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur are listed as suitors.

However, Manchester City have edged ahead of their Mancunian rivals in the chase for the Brazilian and are claimed to be in pole position to sign him.

The Citizens have opened negotiations with Monaco for the transfer of Fabinho and according to L’Equipe a deal could be agreed between both clubs by the end of the week.

A transfer fee of around €25m has been touted and Manchester City are increasingly confident that they will be able to sign the right-back soon.

Considered as the long-term replacement for Dani Alves in the Brazilian national team, Fabinho’s stock has been on the rise since joining Monaco in 2013, initially on a loan deal.

He has already earned two caps for the Selecao.
