Celtic assistant manager John Collins is relishing the prospect of a pre-season campaign at home.

The Bhoys will not be touring for their pre-season this summer, as they are gearing up from home for their Champions League qualifiers starting next month.

Collins, who joined Celtic last season as manager Ronny Deila’s assistant, has talked up his club’s world-class facilities as a reason why the Bhoys have not decided to go on a pre-season tour this summer.

“Most people know we’re at home which is unusual when all will be going to training camps, to play lots of games away from home”, said the 47-year-old to Celtic TV.

“We’ve decided to stay at home apart from one game.

“We’ve got a fabulous training complex here at Lennoxtown so we won’t get a better one anywhere in Europe.”

Collins feels having their pre-season at home will be crucial as the Bhoys are up in a Champions League double header against Stjarnan in a fortnight’s time.

“We’re happy to be at home, train hard and we have got games starting next Wednesday. They will get us ready for the Champions League”, he added.

Celtic kick-off their pre-season next Wednesday against Dutch club Den Bosch before lining up against Dukla Prague three days later. Their last friendly before their Champions League tie is against Real Sociedad.

All three games are to be played at St Mirren Park in Paisley.
