Former Liverpool defender Fabio Aurelio believes that midfielder Philippe Coutinho’s displays from last season will spur him to perform even better next term.

Coutinho was one of the stellar performers for the Reds last term and contributed eight goals and six assists for the Merseyside giants as they finished sixth in the league and reached the semi-finals of both the League Cup as well as the FA Cup.

The Brazil international’s performances saw him scoop four awards at Liverpool’s year-end awards in May.

Coutinho’s compatriot Aurelio has tipped him for more success in the coming season and expects him to play a bigger role in Liverpool’s 2015/16 campaign.

"I have followed Coutinho since he first joined Inter Milan", the former full-back told the Liverpool website.

"Obviously he didn't have a great time there, but he was always a quality player, a quick player that could play very well between the lines. Quick-thinking as well.

"At Liverpool, he had the chance he needed to step up and improve his game; he had the opportunity to show his true qualities.

"I enjoyed watching him a lot last season and now he will have even more confidence to keep doing the great job he is doing at the moment. I wish him the very best."

Coutinho landed at Anfield in 2013 from Serie A giants Inter Milan and through the course of his time in the Premier League, he has gone on to make 102 appearances, scoring 12 goals in the process.
