Aymen Abdennour's agent insists that his client wants to play his football in either the English Premier League or Spain's La Liga, but ruled out a switch to West Ham United.

The tough-tackling Monaco centre-back is the subject of an unfolding transfer battle taking in a number of clubs.

Monaco are willing to deal for the right price, while Newcastle United have already seen a bid rejected for not meeting their valuation.

Manchester United, Liverpool and West Ham have also been linked, but while Abdennour's agent has delivered a killer blow to fellow suitors AC Milan and Juventus, he also ruled out a switch to the Hammers.

Speaking to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Abdennour's agent Abdelkader Jilani explained: "We have never been contacted by AC Milan, nor by other Italian clubs.

"Abdennour wants to play in the Premier League or La Liga, not in Italy.

"The road leading to West Ham is closed."

Jilani was pushed on whether a firm offer from an Italian side could cause a rethink on the part of his client. But for those Italian sides keen, his answer was anything but encouraging.

The agent added: "No, because he does not want to play in Italy.

"I repeat: England or Spain in the future."

Abdennour earned plaudits with his solid displays in the heart of Monaco's defence last season.

The Tunisia international played his part as the principality side finished third in Ligue 1 and reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, knocking Arsenal out along the way.
