Celtic have had an offer of around £900,000 for striker Nadir Ciftci knocked back by Dundee United, according to BBC Scotland.

Bhoys boss Ronny Deila is keen to add the 23-year-old to his ranks before Celtic kick off their Champions League qualifying campaign, but has seen his opening salvo fail.

Dundee United are looking for more than £1m to sell the striker, despite him only being under contract at Tannardice for a further year.

In the winter transfer window this year, Celtic completed a double raid on Dundee United, signing midfield duo Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven.

And Deila wants to drink from the well again, with this time Ciftci his target.

Ciftci scored 16 goals for Dundee United last season, something which piqued Deila and Celtic's interest.

The Bhoys do not have the race all to themselves however, as English Championship club Middlesbrough have also been linked with Ciftci.

Earlier this month Ciftci rejected the offer of a new contract with Dundee United and declared his desire to head elsewhere in 2016.
