Liverpool are close to appointing former Nottingham Forest manager Sean O’Driscoll as part of manager Brendan Rodgers’ coaching staff at Anfield, according to ITV.

The Reds have done away with the services of Rodgers’ assistant Colin Pascoe in a season-end review, following Liverpool’s failure to a secure a berth in next season’s Champions League after ending their league campaign in sixth place.

They also didn’t renew the contract of first team coach Mike Marsh, thus creating vacancies in Rodgers’ backroom staff.

O’Driscoll has been managing England Under-19 team since September last year – a role he took following the departure of Noel Blake.

The 57-year-old’s exact role at Liverpool has not yet been confirmed, but the move is likely to be completed in the coming days.

O’Driscoll, who has visited Liverpool's Melwood training ground in the past, has been on good terms with Rodgers and is believed to share the Northern Irishman’s coaching philosophy.

Prior to his job in the England set-up, O’Driscoll managed Bournemouth, Doncaster Rovers, Crawley Town, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City.
