New Liverpool goalkeeper Adam Bogdan is relishing the prospect of challenging club number one Simon Mignolet for a place between the posts next season.

The Hungary international rates Mignolet highly, but has talked up his prospects of challenging the Belgian in the first team at Anfield.

“I think it's a massive challenge. I know him as a 'keeper, I've been watching him and we are a very similar age. I respect him as a 'keeper”, said Bogdan in an interview with LFC TV.

The 27-year-old is looking forward to a fruitful partnership at his new club with Mignolet, and believes a healthy relationship will be beneficial for both players.

“I'm sure we're going to get along very well and we're going to have a good relationship.

“We're going to compete, of course, that's the nature of this position and the sport. But I'm sure we're going to help each other as well; I have always been very close to the 'keepers I have worked with.

“It's going to be a big challenge but at the same time we are going to help each other as well”, he added.

Bogdan, who has played 19 times for his national team, feels Mignolet’s presence will drive him to perform better which will help him in his quest to become a Hungary regular. Gabor Kiraly is the current number one goalkeeper for Hungary.

“To compete with somebody like Simon can only make me better.

“He sets the bar very high. I hope that can help me with the national team. It's a dream of mine to play for the national team.”

Liverpool confirmed Bogdan’s capture from Championship club Bolton Wanderers last month. He will replace Brad Jones, who left the club at the end of last season, in the Reds squad.

The Hungarian arrives at the Anfield club with previous Premier League experience, having played 24 times for Bolton in the top flight.
