FC Porto have announced that Atletico Madrid have agreed to pay the release clause of Jackson Martinez
to sign him this summer.

Martinez was heavily linked with a move to AC Milan, but during the ongoing Copa America his agent confirmed that his deal with Los Rojiblancos was all but sealed.

The prolific marksman, who had a contract with Porto until the summer of 2019, will be leaving the Estado do Dragao after the Spanish capital outfit agreed to meet his release clause of €35m.

A statement released by Porto’s official website confirmed Diego Simeone’s side's willingness to pay the Colombian’s release clause.

“This Tuesday, Atletico de Madrid informed Futebol Clube do Porto – Futebol, SAD that they will pay the release fee for player Jackson Martínez, worth 35 million euros.”

Martinez netted 32 times and provided seven assists for Porto last term as they finished second in the league and reached the last eight of the Champions League.

Simeone will hope that his latest acquisition supplies him the goals to wrest the league title back from Barcelona when the 2015/16 campaign kicks off.
