Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat wants to hoover up Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel from Chelsea.

Van Ginkel spent last season on loan in Serie A with Italian giants AC Milan, but saw his opening months disrupted by injuries and lacklustre form.

He shone towards the end of his time in Italy however, something which caused the Rossoneri to want to keep him on.

According to Dutch magazine Voetbal International, Advocaat wants Van Ginkel at Sunderland for next season and is eyeing a similar loan deal for the pass-master.

The player himself recently told the magazine that there is little chance of him staying at Stamford Bridge into next season as he is unlikely to receive the playing time he feels he needs.

Van Ginkel explained: "For my development it is crucial to get a full year of football.

"The chances that this can happen at Chelsea are already small", he added.

Chelsea may be open to loaning Van Ginkel to Sunderland as it would hand him a full campaign of Premier League football, preparing him for an eventual return to Stamford Bridge.
