Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Germany midfielder Lewis Holtby has joined Bundesliga club Hamburg on a permanent deal.

Holtby joined Hamburg last summer on loan for the 2014/15 season and helped the northern German club narrowly avoid relegation to the country's second tier.

As part of the loan agreement, Hamburg held an option to sign Holtby permanently and they have now taken advantage of the clause.

Holtby arrived at White Hart Lane from Schalke in 2013, but struggled to hammer down a spot in the side.

He managed just 41 appearances in all competitions for the White Hart Lane outfit, scoring three goals along the way.
