Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of England international defender Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton.

The full-back officially moves to Anfield today, with the transfer window now open for business, and has put pen to paper on what the Reds have described as a long-term contract.

Clyne is thought to have cost Liverpool around the £12.5m mark to snap up from Ronald Koeman's Saints.

And the defender, who had also been linked with Manchester United, has wasted no time expressing his delight at linking up with the Reds.

He told his new club's site: "I'm delighted and it's a dream move for me to come here and play for such a big club with all of its history. I can't wait to get started.

"As soon as Liverpool showed their interest in me, I was happy and just wanted the deal to go through."

Clyne also credited Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers for his dogged determination in signing him, while expressing his belief that at Anfield he can continue his development as a player.

"The gaffer has shown a lot of interest in me and this is a place where I can improve as a player, I think. It's definitely a good opportunity to come here and try to fulfil my potential."

Clyne joins Adam Bogdan, Danny Ings, James Milner, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino in linking up with Liverpool this summer.
